Difficulty and Options

Castlevania: Belmont's Curse difficulty is set in Settings → Gameplay → Custom Mode, and you can open it from the main menu or the in-game menu. 2. Go to Gameplay, then Custom Mode.
  3. Change the values you want and go back to the game.

Which Castlevania: Belmont's Curse difficulty options help with a hard fight?

OptionWhat it changesWhen to use it
Damage dealtHow much your attacks take off enemiesBosses take too long to kill
Damage takenHow much each hit takes off RoseYou die before you learn the pattern
Boss restart locationWhere you come back after a boss kills youThe walk back to the boss door wears you out

If a boss kills you in a few hits, lower damage taken first. If you survive but the fight drags on, raise damage dealt. A small change is often enough: one player who kept losing an early boss fight made a few tweaks, won, and got the Arcana Whip, which opens up new routes. See the weapons page for what the whip does.

Can you change where you respawn after a boss defeat?

Yes. Set the boss restart location so you respawn automatically outside the boss door. This doesn't change the fight itself, only how fast you get back to it. Pair it with the strategies on the bosses page.

Where do you adjust screen shake in Castlevania: Belmont's Curse?

Screen shake intensity has its own setting in the Settings menu. Turn it down if the shaking bothers you.

Which control settings can you change for D-pad play in Castlevania: Belmont's Curse?

Settings has a button configuration screen where you can remap actions. If you play with the D-pad, remap the actions you need onto buttons you can reach comfortably. Then pick up the walkthrough where you left off.
