Map

The map fills in as you explore. The Castlevania: Belmont's Curse map connects branching passages through climbs, pulley mechanisms and whip traversal points. In the early sewer route, check paths below you as well as exits to the side, and open the boss shortcut before committing to the fight.

What does the Castlevania: Belmont's Curse map look like?

The map draws explored rooms as connected outlines, split into areas such as Paris Streets, Abandoned Sewers and Holy Innocents' Cemetery. The top tabs switch between Map, Equipment, Tarot, Journey and System, the current objective sits in the top right, and you get 50 markers to place.

Open the map when you lose track of where you entered. Its tutorial explains that exploration draws the map so you can find your way around and retrace your steps. You can also place markers, which are useful for a passage you want to revisit after getting the whip.

How do you find the branches in the sewers?

Follow the downward route into the sewers, then check the map near the mirror for paths down and right. The descent brings you into a chamber with the Central Sewer Drain area banner and a large green waterfall.

How do you open passages and cross whip routes?

Climb the early walls and strike the pulley to open the next passage; return to the whip route once you have the whip. On the upper ledge, look for the wheel mechanism beside the boarded doorway.

Mark the whip route and come back later. Once you can use the whip, aim toward its connection points. Their shapes tell you how you will move:

Where is the shortcut back to the boss?

Open the shortcut at the pulley beside the large sewer arch before fighting the boss. If the boss kills you, it saves you the long walk back.
